The Mixx opened in the Playhouse District is downtown Pasadena. Owner Ed Minassian and his family cut the ribbon to celebrate.

Restaurateur Edwin Minassian is revving up the holiday at his downtown Pasadena eatery with a new live jazz lineup , and lunch service too, all starting right now.
“We’re adding a live jazz to our dinner service — something new I think that’s enjoyable and needed in Pasadena,” Minassian said. “It’s a complement to a great menu and it complements a great dining experience; Makes it even better”.
On Saturday, jazz stylist Dave Damiani headlines from 7 to 10 p.m. and proves his mastery after studying legends like Earl Palmer, Marty Harris, Ross Tompkins, Sam Most, Teddy Edwards, John Heard, Roy McCurdy, Frank Capp, Ernie McDaniel, Dini Clarke, Danny Grissett, George Gaffney, Mark Murphy, and Richie Cole (just to name a few) who took time to mentor Dave Damiani, share stories and chord changes.
Then comes Will Brahm and his group, Homenaje, on December 9. Having always loved music from different cultures around the world, Will formed his world music group “Homenaje”, releasing their debut album “La Mariposa y el Mentiroso,” In 2017, featuring all original compositions of Will’s. He tours internationally with Homenaje and the New West Guitar Group, and has worked with artists including Kim Richmond, Jimmy Branly, Otmaro Ruiz, Gretchen Parlato, Sara Gazarek, and Jane Monheit.
On the December 16, it’s Loren Battley and the e Quartet. Loren is an award-winning jazz vocalist and composer whose artistry was cultivated in Downey, CA. Her early exposure to gospel, jazz, R&B, and pop, contributes to her unique singing and songwriting style. With an Associate of Professional Music degree from the world renowned School for Music Vocations, founded by Phil Mattson, and a Bachelor of Jazz Studies degree from the prestigious Western Michigan University, Loren has been a member of Downbeat-award winning groups such as First Take, Mas Que Nada, and Gold Company. She has performed alongside Dianne Reeves, Kurt Elling, Mark Murphy, Roger Treece, The Real Group, The New York Voices, and M-Pact. Limited tables available.
Minassian said his starting line-up will be followed by a two-week holiday break and then expect more jazz regularly at The Mixx every Tuesday and Saturday night starting January 9.
As if the jazz rollout is not enough, Minassian is launching lunch service too starting Tuesday, December 12 starting at 11 a.m, daily except Sunday and Monday.
On top of that, his Happy Hour runs daily (including Saturdays) from 5 to 7 p.m.
“We have delicious drink and appetizer specials,” Minassian says.
Also, for you guitar enthusiasts… Legend John Pisano will kick of his Guitar Night in Pasadena for the first time. This 20 year LA institution will celebrate the release of Bob Barry’s new book which will celebrate guitar player performance portraits. The special guest will be Bruce Forman. John and Bruce have been friends for years and have played with the likes of, Ray Brown, Peggy Lee, Joe Pass, Joe Henderson, Tony Bennet, Natalie Cole, Jeff Hamilton, John Clayton and you never know who might use show up on Tuesday December 19th for this incredible collaboration. Alex Frank (bass), and Kendall Kay(drums) will round out the rhythm section. Book signing starts at 6PM, guitar night starts at 7:30PM.
With all this going on, maybe it’s time you “Mixx” it up.
